Director of Supply Planning & Execution
This role leads end-to-end supply planning, logistics execution, and the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process. The Director owns inventory balance across internal production, contract supply, and external sourcing, ensuring customer demand is met efficiently, reliably, and profitably. In a lean operating environment, this role balances strategic ownership with hands-on execution, particularly while foundational processes and team capabilities are being built. Success requires building scalable systems, establishing disciplined processes, and developing a high-performing team capable of operating autonomously.
The Director serves as the integrator across Sales, Production, Processing, and Logistics to ensure alignment, visibility, and operational stability.
Job Responsibilities Supply Planning & Coordination (40%)
- Convert demand forecasts into executable supply plans across internal production, and third-party sourcing.
- Monitor real-time inventory positions and proactively resolve shortages or surpluses.
- Oversee inbound logistics and packaging to ensure on-time, in-full performance at optimal cost.
- Coordinate internal teams and external transportation partners to meet service and efficiency targets.
- Anticipate disruptions, adjust plans quickly, and communicate impacts and solutions.
- Design and implement SOPs, decision frameworks, and escalation protocols to eliminate reactive decision-making
S&OP Leadership (25%)
- Own the full S&OP cycle, including structure, cadence, inputs, outputs, and accountability.
- Align forecasts, production plans, and inventory strategies to support financial and service goals.
- Serve as the central coordination point across Sales, Production, Processing, Operations, and external partners.
- Provide forward-looking analysis on supply risk, capacity constraints, and market dynamics.
- Deliver clear reporting, insights, and recommendations to executive leadership.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives that increase efficiency, reduce cost, and improve decision quality.
- Build scalable processes that support growth without adding complexity
Inventory & Production Management (20%)
- Oversee production scheduling alignment with demand requirements.
- Track and manage critical KPIs such as fill rate, inventory turns, and days on hand.
- Optimize stock levels to balance service, freshness, working capital, and margin.
- Strengthen team capability through coaching, performance management, and role clarity.
Managing Longs & Shorts (15%)
- Own strategy and execution for managing surplus inventory and supply shortfalls.
- Partner with Sales and Marketing to monetize excess inventory and secure coverage for deficits.
- Track financial outcomes and ensure decisions remain within defined guardrails.
- Maintain visibility and accountability for all imbalance actions.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thrives in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and excels at bringing structure to evolving operations.
- Demonstrates a strong bias for action and discipline in implementing repeatable processes.
- Able to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- High accountability and attention to detail; escalates only systemic issues.
- Proven experience stabilizing supply chain execution while building operational discipline.
- Comfortable designing solutions that scale beyond themselves and actively avoids hero- or workaround-based operating models.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; MBA preferred.
- 6–8+ years of progressive supply chain experience required.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge of inventory management, supply planning tools, and ERP systems (NetSuite or similar preferred).
- Agriculture or manufacturing experience preferred.
Physical Demands & Work Environment This position is primarily sedentary, requiring extended periods of computer work. Occasional light physical exertion may occur, along with periodic visits to agricultural facilities where environmental noise and hazards may be present.
