What Makes Someone Successful in This Role
Compliance Mindset: This isn’t someone who sees compliance as bureaucracy to work around. You need to understand why controls exist and how to implement them effectively. If you haven’t worked in environments where data classification, export controls, and segregation of duties are daily considerations, you will struggle.
Matrix Management Skills: You won’t have direct authority over most of the technical resources you coordinate. Success requires influence, relationship-building, and the ability to drive outcomes through collaboration across infrastructure, cybersecurity, compliance, and business systems teams.
Proactive Communication: You must be an over-communicator who doesn’t wait to be asked for updates. You’ll use SharePoint news articles, Teams channels, email distributions, and multiple communication channels to ensure all stakeholders are informed of changes, outages, and project status.
Technical Depth with PM Discipline: You need enough technical knowledge to understand what engineers are discussing and translate it into project actions. When a technical architect mentions a dependency or constraint, you recognize the project impact and document it appropriately.
Flexibility with Tools: Heavily invested in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. You need to be comfortable learning and adopting Microsoft Project, Microsoft Planner, Power Automate, Teams integration, and other M365 productivity tools.
