ComputerPeople has been tasked with recruiting a Senior Manager of Technical Operations who will immediately contribute to the team, bring new ideas, take initiative, and grow their career!  Ideally, they would love someone who is local to Buffalo, NY but they will also consider US-based remote candidates.  They cannot sponsor visas of any kind for the role.

The Senior Technical Operations Manager leads a team that is responsible for supporting a highly trafficked, managed infrastructure. This position requires extensive experience working in large, multi- private and public cloud infrastructure environs. On a day-to-day basis, you will plan and coordinate the design, deployment, monitoring and maintenance of multiple large scale and evolving operational environments. You will be responsible for supporting a minimum of 99.99% uptime for key infrastructure that underpins our client’s hosted SaaS product line.


  • Lead and manage a multi-discipline Technical Operations team (systems, network, database and storage/virtualization engineers) responsible for the deployment, security and operational stability of large scale, hosted service infrastructure.
  • Execute programs, projects and deployments to meet strategic objectives, whilst ensuring that customer contractual SLA’s are being maintained.
  • Manage private and public cloud operations and vendors.
  • Proactively identify opportunities, conducting analyses/needs assessments, and cost/benefit assessments that will lead to increased Technical Operations efficiencies (cost, resource and process focused).
  • Aligned with business goals, create, document and enforce schedules and policies for system health with the goal to maintain optimal performance, availability, security and redundancy.
  • Establishes and maintains strong collaborative relationships with internal and external strategic partners.
  • Monitor and communicate the status of projects and deployments to stakeholders, team members, and management.
  • Mentor all team members and guide to leverage up-to-date technologies and best practices
  • Set goals and objectives for direct reports to align with the overall department and business goals.


  • 5+ years’ experience with managing operational teams that are responsible for administering, monitoring and the backup of large-scale, mission-critical systems
  • 7+ years’ experience with networking/distributed computing environment concepts; can configure NFS, key-based ssh; DNS; familiar with basic networking concepts: switching, routing (BGP,(R)STP, IPSEC, source routing), firewalls, load-balancing at various layers
  • 5+ years’ experience of operating standards and practices required to maintain the security of infrastructure, systems and data to meet SOC 2 and PCI compliance.
  • 3 + years of public cloud Linux-based infrastructure and service administration (AWS, GCP, OCI).
  • Certified RHCE or similar
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, prioritization and interpersonal skills, in combination with a desire to educate and develop talent within the team
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, as well as excellent interpersonal skills to foster interaction within all levels of the organization are essential.
  • Experience with project management, specific to large technology integrations
  • Solid process skills with an understanding of change control processes and managing critical production environments.

Desired Competencies/Skills

  • Experience in budget formulation and cost management preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fluid environment, where both long-term planning and short-term releases must be balanced
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced, diverse, performance-based team environment.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask and focus on critical path deliverables.
  • Experience with hosted identity and/or email services.
