ComputerPeople has been retained by a Buffalo-based software development organization in their search for a Chief Technology Officer (CTO).  This position is 100% remote.  This position will have an active role in not only software development but with an upcoming AWS migration and Security Initiative. 

Our client embraces a “work to live” methodology, where they effectively and efficiently deliver updates and enhancements to their core software product during the hours of 8-3:30EST Monday through Thursday (8-2:30 on Fridays), while encouraging their employees to use the life/work balance and impressive PTO policy to get out and LIVE!  This has been a game-changer in their ability to recruit and retain talent.

The selected candidate will lead the next phase of growth, and will require a goal-driven leader who will be responsible to carry out an overall technology strategy and achieve goals as it aligns to the mission of the company.  Ultimately, we’re looking for someone with a proven track record of delivering products and updates on-time.  With two direct-reports and a team of ten technical staff, the CTO’s responsibilities include:

● Define the Technology Team’s long term strategy and metrics to ensure alignment with company goals

● Monitor KPIs and IT budgets to assess technological performance

● Discover and implement new technologies that yield a competitive advantage

● Develop security processes

● Communicate priorities, expectations, and decisions across a wide spectrum of audiences from direct reports, to partner teams, to executive level stakeholders

● Manage, execute, and/or delegate development, QA, infrastructure and support responsibilities to achieve key performance metric goals

● Prepare and present regular reports and presentations on metrics

● Forecast hiring needs for the Technology Team

● Design and review the Technology Team’s budget

● Participate in the quarterly and annual planning of the company’s objectives and initiatives

● Manage direct reports by providing support and guidance for growth


To be successful in the role, we’re looking for someone with the following skills:

● Exceptional Communication Skills.  The person selected for this position will be tasked with bringing together previously “siloed” departments and team members.  This is NOT a role for introverts!

Strong experience in senior leadership role within the IT industry

● “Action-oriented” Leadership Style.  Tired of corporate red tape?  This organization’s leadership team will empower the selected candidate to take charge and get stuff done.  They’re tired of excuses and simply want to move ahead!

● Knowledge of technological trends to build strategy

● Ability to conduct technological analyses and research

● Understanding of budgets and business-planning

● Excellent time management skills

● Strong project management skills

● Excellent communication skills which allow you to understand and be understood with your team

● Facilitating thoughtful and constructive conversations between members of your team, as well as with other members of leadership

● Ability to receive feedback openly and deliver feedback to your team or other stakeholders in ways that are supportive and actionable

● Strong business acumen in planning and organizing, decision-making and achieving results while focusing on customer needs and business success

Technically-speaking, we’re looking for someone with development experience or proven management experience of teams who use: C++, C#, Javascript, .NET Core, React, Asterisk, Kubernetes.  Candidates with Agile, Jira and Bitbucket will be moved to the top of the list!
